I have a 1986 Chevy Camaro. The brakes feel like thay are stuck. I checked the brake fluid and it's ok. What else can I do?

Re: brakes Sign In

Do you mean like they are stuck on and you can't move? That could be frozen parking brake cable(s) or perhaps a caliper or flex line to them. If you find one of these items bad do them all. You should have wheel cylinders in the back and they usually don't stay stuck on but rather just don't move or brake properly,

They aren't stuck where I can't move. They won't pump and if I move I have to push them as hard as I can and they barely stop.

Ok: That sounds like you've lost power assist. There is a large vacuum line from back of intake manifold that goes to a nylon thing on the booster which is that huge whoopie cushion behind master cylinder and the firewall.

That hose must get good vacuum at the manifold and not leak, check valve must be good, and the diaphragm has to be working and not leaking also. This is fairly basic stuff exxcept replacing the booster (thing behind master cylinder) could be a pill,
