cheapest way to lock a diff

What is the cheapest way to lock a differential?
I have a old mazda b-2000 2wd it's kinda just a beater truck and the open diff in it sucks and i wanted to lock it, I thought abould just welding the gears but it'd would be nice to put it back to stock if i wanted.

That's ridiculous. you can't weld the gears on a street car. It won't turn.

How do they do it in street and strip race cars? I know they are locked.
I don't use it everyday I just want some more traction when going off road in my back yard to drop off mulch and stuff like that. Plus posi is more fun hehe!

They don't do it on street cars and strip cars don't have to turn without scrubbing the tires.

It can be done . Ive done it on several mud racers . Its for off road use only . Altho I ran my monster 4x4 ford pickup with 18"of lift and 18 x44 tires with the spider gears welded on front axle. When drving on street i just unlocked one hub and relocked when in slippery stuff . Your right to say its not very practical , unless mud raceing. THe cheapest correct way is a set of Lockrite gears . Most sets are around $200.

$200? haha I got the truck for free so i was hoping to lock it for about the same.
My Dad had chevelles and stuff that he had full time posi in and they were ok on the street, you got a little bit of screeching around sharp turns but it wasn't too bad.
I agee with hammer time that for a everyday street car it's not a good idea, but I won't be driving this thing that much cause of no A/C and no powersteering and the heat is crappy. 
Does anyone know of a factory limited slip diff that might fit in my truck, this probably would be my best bet.
I know some ford trucks have them but i don't know what ones would be easy to find in a junkyard.

You laugh at $200 to convert a diff to posi the correct way . Do you think a salvage yard is going to "Give" you a functioning posi rear.On your budget you wont be able to buy gas for the thing anyway. drain the lube out of rear end ,eventually everything will "lock up" By the way , drag cars and other straight line racers use a spool. and they are trailered to the event.

I had made a comment that isn't here? Probably air head me didn't hit post
How about just tire chains with just what you have and leave the diff alone? A few bucks but not the world. If you've ever used them they are awesome for even 2WDs. A pill to put on (at least the last set I had) but you could just get lousy used wheels and tires and leave them on one set of wheels. Shouldn't need to do all four,

Yes i know there not going to give me a free diff.. there $100 bucks at my local junkyard.
But do you see my point? It's a free beater truck i don't want to spend much money on it.
I know that $200 in cheap for a locker, My father and i have been into hot rods and 4x4's all my life. I do know stuff about this..
Just looking for a cheap or free rednecky kinda way to lock it that's why i said weld the gears.

I thought about chains before but i don't want to have to take them off evertime i go on the street bcause I'd be using it 50/50 onroad off road.

I've got all Summer to find chains for my own truck for plowing snow on top of ice even 4X4 seems useless sometimes. Been ages but keep hearing about real quick ones to put on and take off vs ones I recall and have for other things. IDK - they are a total pest or were but so is digging out a 4X4 really stuck. Laugh - what do I pull it out with - a Lincoln? Right - NOT,

After thinking about it might just sell the truck and get something that does what i want..
Yeah I don't care if you have 8wd if you ain't got traction you ain't gonna move..lol
