MA Failed Inspection Sign In

2004 Jeep Wrangler SE 86k miles - Massachussetts inspection
Went to get an inspection and the guy failed me for saftey. Said I needed to the upper and lower ball joints in the front right wheel had to be replaced but he could do it for $250 right there. I said no I have a regular mechanic he tried hard to sell me and say I would find the price cheaper but I said no. So I took it to my normal mechancic and someone random mechanic just to get views and both said they didn't need to be replaced. Is tehre any way without filing a complaint to the state I can just get another inspection and be on way?

Also my mechanic said it would be a lot more the $250 to do the job and he thought he was trying to quick sell me and do nothing. Hence why I'm thinking of filing a compliant but I'd rather avoid the the hassle and just get it reinspected by someone reputable.

Re: MA Failed Inspection Sign In

Well we are just here to give repair advice and not much in the legal dispute.. Some people may have more tolerance then others if there is just a tiny bit of play then one person may let it go where the other may not. Does seem kinda cheap for both lowers , tire and alignment check.. considering the tire new would probably be at least $100 not installed.

Long story short you can complain, but it will probably get you no where and alot of wasted time.

Re: MA Failed Inspection Sign In

We aren't here for legal disputes - PERIOD.

From Mass so know the ropes. Inspections can stink and a way for the shop to screw people if so inclined. A red "R" sticker means that vehicle is not allowed on public roads - no games.

If you don't think this vehicle needs that work take it right away to any other shop for inspection or the repairs. You get a FREE re-inspection here once when just the listed items are tended to or God help us if that was a fake so pay a shop a couple bucks for an estimate if it needs anything at all.

Trust me - retired but we worked hard to help folks and most are still working that reply here. The other side is a bitching customer which happens too and quickly showed the door by me!
