Hit and run Question
I have 4 Points on my record. Few days ago i was in a car accident. It was around 4am. While i was driving back home my front bad tire hit a pot hole (Driver side tire was bad need to be replace) and popped my tire and made me lose control. i hit a light pole and a little damage to someone property. I was able to move my car and park it. It was 4am and i didnt want to report it yet because i wanted my mechanic to pick it up instead of paying a tow truck to pick up and then pay my mechanic to pick it up(was trying to save $). So i left the scene. 5 hr later I went back to report it but someone already did they took my car. So i went to the police station to explain why i left and got a ticket to appear to court for hit and run. Hit and run is 8point. so i should have 12point already but the cop gave me back my license. Do you think is i appear to court that they will take my license? Or I will have to pay a fine?

Probably.......................... as they should. It will probably be suspended when the paperwork arrives at the DMV and may also be permanently revoked by the judge when you go to court. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Here you wouldn't see a valid driver's license after the "hit-and-run" sticks for years and it will if you had any means to contact anyone even leave a sign on the car - anything! There would be exceptions if you were running for your life for some reason. You knew of a bad tire + drove anyway. a new tire could blow too but you just convicted yourself. This site is not for law and order but personally I don't want people that do that on the roads driving. You can be a passenger all you want. Sorry it happened but driving is a privilege not a right and you are going to lose that, Tom

The law is clear and unwavering on this one. If you damage someone else's property with your car you have a legal obligation to report it. If you choose to leave the scene without saying anything to anyone its a hit and run. Considering the particular time of night I wonder if there is more to this story than we are hearing. Need an extra 5 hours to get the breatholyzer score down perhaps? No matter what the circumstances, leaving the scene of an accident is a crime. You knew your car was unsafe, you drove it anyway. You knew hit and run was against the law, you did it anyway. If you pay the piper, expect to hear the tune. Your license is going to be suspended for this. Before you think I'm some goody-goody who looks down his nose at others, think again. My license got yanked for 6 1/2 years for my own stupidity, and stupidity is exactly what it was. I took responsibility for it and dealt with the consequences. It sucked, but I brought it on myself. Now its your turn.
