Is there any form of artificial light that could be shining at the top of the driver’s side dash? That is where the ambient light sensor is located; if not it maybe a defective sensor not sensing the low light conditions soon enough. You’ll find the sensor under the defroster vent grill, actually there are two sensors under there; the other is the sun load sensor for the air conditioning. If you were going to just try a new sensor, maybe get the replacement sensor first that’s so you don’t replace the wrong one. If the problem is still there, take the car in; the test procedure is quit involved and you’ll need a scan tool to perform some of the tests, let alone a good understanding of the system. Dan.
