2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES 2.4L 220000 miles, car has ran great since i bought it 2 years ago. This morning i tried to start it, it hit once(did not start) then the starter ran like it was not engaging, I checked and engine is turning over but with no compression around 12lbs per cylinder. I pulled timing cover and alligned the marks they are dead on, timing belt is tight and looks in good shape. Camshaft is rotating (thought posible break)in my experience even blown rings more than 12lbs. Im kinda stumped anyone have a suggestion as what i should check next or maybe solution? Please and Thank you.

Before you parked it how was it running? When you checked compression did you have the ignition and injection disabled? Did you check the compression with the throttle all the way open? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I first first pulled 1 plug and checked and had got only 12lbs on that cylinder, then i pulled all the plugs and i am getting 30lbs per. I did not disable injection, and did not try with throttle open but will try that next. When i parked it, it ran great. Thank you for replying I will update in a few and if you have any suggestions they are appreciated.

I think you'll find valve timing is all off if not from the top perhaps the bottom. 220K on this? What do you expect? T

This one definitely is an interference engine so if the belt jumped, then engine is gone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
