A little too much ATF fluid
|

Hi. Have a 2000 Dodge Neon. Added about 1/3 of a quart too much automatic transmission fluid to it by mistake. Still drives ok, at operating temperature I've checked the fluid on the dipstick and it seems fine (no bubbles or foam) Is it ok to leave it this way or do I need to have it drained off? Thanks.

I'd suck it out to proper level just because. Question is was it low at all if you added any it should make you want to know where it went. It's normal for a cold and warm level for ATF and must be read while level as per each vehicle's specs either running in "P" or running in "N" and some an entire different deal. All the ones I know of the "low" or "add" mark means 1 pint not a quart, if not marked clearly on dipsticks find out for sure for that exact one for any vehicle you mess with, T

You need that trans to be at the proper level. Easy way to get some fluid out is to unhook one of the trans cooler lines at the radiator and have someone start the engine for you while you have it aimed into a catch pan. It won't take long at all to get the fluid out so you will need two people to do this job. Then hook the hose back up and verify the correct level on the dipstick.

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo and the transmission has all been slipping a little since I got it 5 years ago. I wanted to change the transmission fluid but I'm afraid it might get worst. I really don't want to spend $2500 to fix a transmission right now.
