Engine trouble 96 thunderbird

96 thunderbird was having trouble turning over, had coil spark and plug spark. Fuel was getting to the injector. Battery fine finally started took it for a ride and check engine lite came on and died while driving it . Now no spark from coil and plugs. One more thing my luck is not good cant get an OBD 1 or 2 coder to fit my car have tried both wow. 4.6L lots of miles 190,000 never have problems with car been real good to me owned it for 7 yrs. Been without wheels for a week now ugh

If your car is a 96, any OBD2 code reader will work on it. All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment. If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money. Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for. These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause. 1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on. 2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on. 3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off. 4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test. Just curious, but when you connect an OBD2 code reader up what is going on? Does the code reader power up and/or is it putting a message up saying it can't communicate. Does the check engine light come on when you turn the ignition on? Can you hear the fuel pump prime for a couple secs when you turn the ignition on? I know this sounds crazy but the attatchments to the OBD1 and 2 kit wont fit my car. I know this sounds crazy unless we are so dont know what we are doing. Wont fit under dashboard on passenger side and do not see anything under hood. The check engine lite does come on but after third try. this has started after the car totally shutting down while driving

Your T bird should have the 16 pin diagnostic link connector located below the instrument panel to the right of the steering column. All 96 and up OBD2 DLCs are all standardized and any OBD2 code reader should plug into it. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Not much help for you but are you certain this is really a '96? Door jam info, vin #s and stickers underhood. Ford put the vin all over places and other cars. No clue why you can't hook up but you seem to know you have no spark. Can you even hear fuel pump prime up? Sorry that I really don't know much about this exact car but if you have to wing it you'll have to start checking things one by one. Wild guess is it might have some safety feature that shuts it down on purpose as in an accident. Some put an inertia switch in the rear (trunk) that could or would usually shut fuel pump down TMK and hitting a bump (rare) could trigger it to shut down or perhaps it failed. Other problem spot and IDK is the starter motor wiring was subject to weather and problems. At least take a look and do some tests, T
