Unsure WE ARE REDOING THE 1967 MUSTANG, WE ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE POWER STEERING WHEN WE TURNED ON THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL WENT TO THE LEFT REAL FAST AND WHEN WE TRIED TO TURN IT BACK TO THE RIGHT IT WAS REAL HARD TO DO

Re: POWER STEERING FOR A 1967 MUSTANG Sign In

The power steering assist on these cars use a manual steering box and a by-directional hydraulic cylinder attached to the steering linkage for the power steering assist.
At the end of this cylinder there is a control valve (where the hoses attach) that directs fluid under pressure to one side or the other of the cylinder’s internal piston; depending on which direction you turned the steering wheel.
One of two things has happened with yours; that control valve is seized in one position directing fluid as if you were making a left turn. Or somehow the adjusting nut has been turned so far out of adjustment that again the fluid is being directed as it would if you were turning. With the age of this car it’s likely seized but if you want to try and adjust it you’ll have to remove the end dust cap (left end) and you will see this adjusting nut. Turning the adjusting nut clockwise should cause the cylinder’s ram to extend; counter clockwise retract; the engine will need to be running while you make the adjustment.
If you (I think you will be) end up replacing the controller you’ll likely have to make this adjustment. The final part of the adjustment is to center the amount the nut is turned between when the cylinder's ram starts to extend and retract.
