I am looking for a general price range for a heated side mirror for a 2012 Audi A5. There is damage to the wiring as well. I know this will be expensive but I'm just wondering what price range to expect.

Its a year old and out of warranty? Did you hit something and tear it off? I can't tell you what it will take to fix because I cannot see the damage to the wiring you are talking about. It may be minor, might be a real pain requiring a lot of work. As new as this is, dealer is likely the only source to get this part.

Someone accidentally caught my side mirror while driving. I have to replace it but I'm trying to do it outside of the insurance company. I don't know much about cars and my friend told e $2000-3000 because of the damaged wiring but I don't trust him and being Sunday I can't call. Any idea on best and worst case scenario pricing?

Somewhere from $125 to $190 for the part. That is dependent on what options you have. Labor should be about an hour to replace. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

I have been told that if there is damage to the wiring that it could be as extensive as having to remove the door panel in order to fix it. Is this true?

I would expect the value of that part to be well in excess of $300-$400. The motor alone is $190. They would probably have to remove the door panel to change the mirror anyway. If the wiring is damaged beyond what comes with the mirror, it can be repaired while the door panel is off. The dealer is the only one that can tell you what that mirror is worth and whether it will have to be painted before installation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

With everyone on this. Is it just hanging by wires now or something? Wild guess as way too new for me to have noticed any out there but painted add that and surprisingly that could cost some bucks IF it only comes in one base color new. Wiring almost certainly goes into door with a plug so I can't know but that pigtail or wires probably comes with the new one and only inspection of it will tell if more than that. If this also lights and features unknown to us it could get pricey for the part. Plain labor probably not all that bad. Why avoid insurance? If this is hit and run it shouldn't effect your record or standing with the company. That would be like vandalism. It wouldn't where I am unless this type of thing happens too much then you might be suspect. Just my two cents, T
