Water under driver-side rear floor mat Sign In

I drive a 1998 VW Golf GL, which has had the usual minor headaches of an old VW- engine's in great shape, some exhaust and electrical work now and then. The past few weeks have been rainy, and my wife noticed I'm getting a lot of moisture under the rear floor mat on the driver's side, so much so that it soaked through a canvas shopping bag she had placed there.
I don't have a sun roof- is this coming from the undercarriage?
This is definitely our "second" car, just for quick jaunts around town, so we want to keep it running but don't want to do anything heroic either. Any ideas before we take it in would help!

If any easy visual rust hoist it and get a real good look. Other common but tricky to find places are windshield, rear windows or any rubber guttering that has given out. You do need to find this and stop it as it could become a "sick" car growing yuk, mold and spores some people are violently reactive to,
