2000 ford explorer 4.o lt. v-6 4x4 150 k miles check eng light comes on last for 2 to 4 days after turn off . new cats x 2 , cat senors x 4 checked w/ obv meter , light after runing codes , code p0142 ,144 ,said egr valve not working but is . runs rough when lights is on . i am a ex master mechainc and ex master computer tech . thinking about taking apart the autos computr box and removing CMOS battery out and short the neg and pos so as to reset the cmos back to factory setting . has any one done this ? or can ant one offer a diff sternoi .

P0142 & P0144 are telling you that there is a problem in the EGR system. Not neccessarily (and probably not) the EGR valve, itself. The most common causes of these codes are DPFE sensor and/or plugged passageway. I would strongly recommend you stay away from the computer. Loren SW Washington
