stop engine smoke in a bottle Sign In

my 88 honda civic, approx 110,000 mi. is obviously burning oil by the smoke and oil consumption.A "friend" has a bottle of "stop smoke" and said it could be a sticky valve or whatever. My question is,Is there any kind of oil additive that could stop this problem and is it detrimental to the engine?is there any kind of additive out there that is legite. My opinion as with the fixes for radiators and such is that it is a last resort and are not a safe option.Any help is appreciated

You are right. They might stop the symptom for a while but it will not "fix" the problem. There is a chance that it will cause further problems later. This stuff is popular with dishonest used car dealers.
