i have a 1985 jeep cherokee 2.5L rear bearings need replaced does the axle and hub pull out in one piece or do i need a special tool to get the hub off

That style of bearing should be pressed on to the axle and removed as an assembly. You unbolt the 4 bolts off retaining plate & slide hammer the axle out. If you don't have a slide hammer just put the drum on backwards start 3 lug on the studs just far enough so you won't hurt the threads & use the drum as a slide hammer..... The later models used C clips on the end of the axles to hold them in but you would be able to tell by no retain plate on the axle bolting it to the housing thru the brk backing plate...... If it does have C clips, you would need to take the diff cover off & remove it that way.....
