Hello, I have a 1986 Nissan 720 long bed pickup truck, 2.4 L engine, 4 cylinder. Its a great truck but it has recently been stalling out. At first it would go into gear and then stall out but now it stalls as soon as it is done with its warm up cycle. So far I have checked the fuel filter, fuel pump, and lines from tank to front and all are just fine and working. I then went on to check the air system. I found that the pan that holds the air filter (on top of the carbuerator) was cracked everywhere, so... I taped it with aluminum tape inside and out and reattached it. The truck ran good for a couple more weeks given that I replaced the tape every so often. Last week it began stalling out before even going into gear. I give it about a min.to warm up and then it would stall out once the second cycle of air engaged and the RPM's lowered ready for it to drive. I inspected the carb and anything around it that seemed visibly wrong. One of the exit nozzles on the carb was shredded and an air hose was poorly connected that goes to a cannister. My best guess on these parts is that the busted nozzle is an air out line that goes to the cannister and the cannister is a computerized air tester. Perhaps the air line is giving the cannister/ tester the wrong gas air emmission mixture reading and the truck is turning off because of this. Could it be a thermostat prob.? What else could it be? green on carbs-K.Ray

Well, the first thing to understand is that you don't have a carburetor. Your truck is fuel injected. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes I do have a carb, I know because I took it out and put it back in.

Check all the vacuum hoses and repair any that are cracked or broken. I have the 1986 early model or the 8/85 model that also has the carburator on it. It's called an 1986 on the window sticker when I bought it. But the door jam is stamped August 1985. Does your choke plate open up all the way when the truck warms up? There is a rubber seal that goes around the bottom of the air filter that can break apart and part of the rubber can fall down into the carburator throat. And the rubber gromlet that's in the air filter cover can do the same thing. Check them both and make sure that they are in good repair. I'm in the process of trying to figure out why my 1986 gas two wheel drive Nissan 720 pickup truck won't start after it gets hot. I am thinking about replacing the fuel pump which also has a filter inside it as well as another fuel filter on the gas line. Check the vent lines going to the carbon canister and make sure that they are clean and clear and not cracked or leaking. The vacuum lines are very important and the truck won't run right if you get air leaks in the some of the vacuum lines.
