I have a 1996 GMC Sierra 4x4 1500series 5.7 litre motor. I have changed the fuel pump, cap and rotor, coil, fuel relay switch and the wiring has been checked. The vehicle still won't start. Turn the key to on and the fuel pump is not heard. Turn the key to off then the fuel pump begins to kick in. Please help driving me crazy.

RSchoenrock; The two main things we need to check: 1. Are you getting spark to the plugs? 2. Are you getting sufficient fuel pressure? The Vortec motors require 60-66psi fuel pressure. At 55psi or below, it probably won't run. Check these two things, then get back to us. There are many other possibilities, but on that particular engine, these are the two most common.

There is no spark and no fuel pressure.
