Many of the larger and others parts outlets are doing code readings for free! Since 1996 up, all vehicles made have on board diagnostics called OBDII which is monitoring tons of items and the code(s) don't necessarily say exactly what to do but should lead to the problem area. Example might be an oxygen sensor saying it has enough fuel delivery and tell the vehicle to make adjustments to compensate or 100s of possible things. You may have a clogged converter and should know that performance of it is poor or below specs. Things like that save time in manual diagnosing or wasting time and money replacing things that are NOT the cause. Even if the check engine light is not staying on it's watching and in time if an engine isn't running well will throw a hard code and light will stay lit. Still takes human judgement on what to do based on the info. If you are not one to fix this yourself then about all shops will do a code reading first with this complaint. Acting fast with an engine that isn't running properly can save a ton of bucks vs waiting, T

I didn't realize that when I posted. I'm locking it now and the poster needs to start his own thread. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
