4wd and 4wd low lights are flashing

I have 97 Explorer XLT with 4.0L V-6. The 4wd and 4wd low lights flash on my dashboard. When the codes were scanned they came up as transmission failure codes, but the transmission is operating flawlessly. What do I look at next?
