Vacuum diagram... Carb ports? Valve functions?

I'm trying to understand the vacuum diagram for my Canadian 1986 Chevy C10 van. It's got a 4.3l engine and automatic OD transmission. 
The links below show my vacuum diagram, and a simplified schematic that I've been able to put together based on the diagram.

What are the lettered ports on the carbuerator?
How do the various valves work? I can see that the EFE/Distributor TVS has four ports, but which port does what? Same for the EGR/Purge/TCC TVS, the Decel valve and the Vacuum Regulator?
Looking at the EFE end of my schematic, where is the source of the vacuum that does all the work?
Any help would be appreciated!!!
