I drive a 2002 dodge ram 1500, 5.9l v8 with 119000 miles on it. My truck was running perfectly fine until one day when I started it up and attempted tp put it in gear. At first the truck wouldn't go in any gear at all so I turned the engine off and restarted it, it finally went into drive but reverse still doesn't work, all other gears besides reverse are fine. I've tried to throw it into four wheel drive then test the reverse and it still doesn't work

You have a failure internally. Could be a shift fork or a syncronizer. Only a teardown and inspection will tell . Removeing the cover may be enough to check fork . If major damage could be cheaper to buy used gear box. LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH
