battery keeps dying Sign In

my battery went dead in my truck not too long ago. its an 84 so its pretty old but i just got a new battery and it worked fine at first but it already died twice within a week. i thought it might be the alternator but someone told me that if you take the negative off the battery and it stayed running then the alternator was probably good. so i did that and it stayed running but the last time i revved it up without the negative hooked up it stalled. all of the connections to the battery are clean. i cleaned them when i got the new battery a week ago. does anyone have any ideas of what it might be before i have to take the alternator off and have it tested.

Charge the battery up with a charger not just the vehcile and then run it and see what the voltage output is. Start with that. Engine off you should see about 12v. Engine on about 14.something and it should be able to stay up there even with lights on etc.,

maybe try to replace the bettery connectors becauce they might have old curosion left on them or take a small knife and try to scrape away at what ever you can that should work.. it worked on my '94 f150 when it had the same problem
