I have a 1996 Ford F150, and the gear shift will not go into any of the gears. This happened once before and all it took was a tightening of the bolts. It doesn`t appear to be that this time. Gear shift lever is loose on steering column.

If all the linkage is tight all the way to transmission, the shift tube or the shift tube bushings are bad. The shift tube is made from cast aluminum and is easily broken.
