99 tahoe mystery no start with spark Sign In

so here is my dillema, i recently got a 99 chevy tahoe for 900 bucks so i figured idd run into a few issues. the car was driving fine when i got it but a few days into it i noticed when i start the car and go to drive it would drive but upon the first major acceleration (like getting onto a main road) it wouldnt want to accelerate at all but once it did start picking up speed it wouldnt run into the issue again until i turned it off and drove again. did this every time but one morning it was wet outside and the car just shut off while driving. wouldnt start back up and the battery drained very quickly from having the flashers and headlights on. iv replaced the crankshaft sensor as well as ignition controle module and fuel pump. i also reset the onboard computer and still have the same issue. there is spark and fuel is getting to the engine. also it had this fast clicking even when the key was out and the battery is actually making my cables smoke when i try jumping it. oh and the check engine light is on but my reader didnt find any codes. im at a complete loss as to what it could be.

Re: 99 tahoe mystery no start with spark Sign In

Which engine sport?
There's two things mentioned - 1st a power issue now it just clicks when trying to start it are possibly related so let's check some stuff.

Need which engine - several available for '99s. Know that "Vortec" engines will not run for crap if not enough fuel pressure for usually a bad fuel pump but check fuel pressure and that it holds. Spec for those is about 62-66 PSI should hold too with key off.

This clicking game is overheating starter with poor power to it as a strong guess. May have wrecked it or not. Begin with knowing battery is fully charged and fully tested for cranking amps not just volts - it matters.

Connections of the cables. Eyelets of side post OE terminals soook bad and if not taken care of useless long before this. Replace as needed if lousy the other ends can be cleaned up and grease them or this will be constantly a problem.
? Smoking cables - your vehicle or substandard cables. If you paid less than $100 for jumper cables they are junk for side posts especially. All you can do it let lousy ones charge YOUR battery for like an hour if need be with a just a low charge but if battery NG no point so know that.

One lead to the other. If battery voltage can't stay up while cranking and running maybe lousy battery then fuel pump get low voltage and everything else but would run like crap if at all. Fuel pump failures common especially if/when these or any run low or out of fuel.
If stickers still around read them. You don't touch timing on the Vortecs common this model year and should have good power no matter which engine and you don't know if not when you get it running may need that set.

Price of the thing? IDK - either known issue seller didn't want to deal with or you got a deal depending on the thing should be worth that in parts if any are good,

Gotta love the parts cannon. It just never hits it's target.

Re: 99 tahoe mystery no start with spark Sign In

its the 5.7. iv already changedd the fuel pumpand through a ton of other parts at it based on revommendation from a mechanic friend of mine. obviously not an amazing one. i havnt done anything with battery or cabkes yet mainly because i disnt think that kind if stuff would be able to just randomly shut thw car down and prevent it from being able to start again even with a jump. im thinking it could be ecu just based on what ive replaced so far and the fact that i can leave it with a mild charge and come back a day later to a 100% dead battery, not even enough juice in it to make the interior lights turn on.

Re: 99 tahoe mystery no start with spark Sign In

You need to run a few more tests.

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Not sure, but this reads like a no crank.
