Toyota Tacoma engine question Sign In

I've got a 97 Tacoma 4x4 with a 4 cylinder engine. It's getting up there in miles so I've been thinking about a rebuilt engine. Does anyone know if I can drop in a 6 cylinder? If so, would I be able to just install it or will I have to make some modifications? I appreciate any feedback I can get.

Doing that would require so many modifications that it wouldn't be feasible. You have a computer operated engine and the entire management system and all the wiring is for the 4 cylinder so it could not run the 6 cylinder, not to mention it would be against Federal law to do that and drive it on US highways.
