flexplate tooth missing Sign In

Rebuilt 351c with new flexplate & used old starter which was in good condition. Now have missing tooth on flexplate. When replacing flexplate, how can I avoid this problem again. Is there a way to align starter. Thanks, 1970 ford ranchero

Was the tooth broken off or just worn down?

After sarting the engine for let's say 6 months, starter would spin. Removed starter and noticed a tooth was gone. Really want to avoid same thing happening again after installing replacement flexplate, Maddog

That flexplate also called a flywheel or the ring gear on it is replaceable in whole. Shouldn't loose a tooth as mentioned like that but if starter is asked to start a running engine you are on your own.

You are lucky as this one is relatively easy as they go,

You could take your flexplate to the dentist. j/k

I believe you can fix that by welding another tooth on there. Weld a bead and file it to make a tooth. As long as your engine isn't kicking back while starting you shouldn't break anymore teeth off.
