Hi

1996 Ford F150 4.9, 4x4, manual transmission.

Passenger side radius arm bracket rusted through and broke so I took it in. As expected, there were other parts that need to be replaced due to rust. Frame is solid. I didn't think to get a written estimate.

Mechanic replaced the passenger side i beam, radius arm+bracket. tie rod, bushing, axel shaft, ball joint and other parts.

The bill came out to $3600.00.

They put 21 hours labor on the invoice. 2 eight hour shifts plus five hours seems near double what it should be.

Does this seem high to you? Maybe I'm overreacting.

Here is a link to the invoice:

They did some major rebuilding of the entire steering and suspension parts. The labor might be a little high but it's hard to know how much time it actually took on a truck that old.

You definitely should have started with an estimate so this stuff could have been explained before the work was approved.

You might want to ask him to explain how he got to those numbers. Did he use flat rate time or actual time.
