Hi all, I have been having an interesting issue with my truck. The radio resets (buzzes, and then resets to 1:00/kills power to it momentarily, then returns to normal) when my programmer boots up. It's a Bullydog Diesel Programmer. Now - with that in mind I figured it was just an issue with the programmer and have tried reinstalling it, updating it, changing the power supplies, pulling fuses, etc and nothing has come to any kind of result - so I've just lived with it for about the last 6-8 months. Recently I plugged in a Bluetooth OBD tool to check over a few things on the truck and when it tries to communicate with my ECM, it does the exact same thing as the programmer! Every time it attempts to connect to the ECM it resets the radio, and then fails to communicate. Does have anyone have experience with a similar issue?

Is it a factory radio or an aftermarket? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hard to say what's going on here. The radio is one of the components on the data communication line with the ECM and other modules. I'd say you should try a professional scan tool that may be able to access the radio also.

Yeah, I may have to do just that. I'm curious if when I installed the tuner if it tries to communicate through the wrong method or something. I think you're supposed to pull certain fuses when you install it and I may have flubbed that up. Maybe a weekend project.

You should double check your power supplies, sounds like that is where your problem lies. Pretty much every radio/system since the 80s has 2 power supplies. Batt source and ignition source. The constant 12v is for the radio memory presets, clock and all other stored info. The ign source is for when the system is turned on. Every time there is a source problem, the one common complaint is "every time the key is turned off, it's like the radio gets unplugged"
