I have a 2006 Dodge Caravan 3.3L at about 180K miles. Someone tried to steal it. They jammed something into the doorlock to open it and the removed the âignition lock cylinderâ and broke the âsafety ringâ. Excuse my ignorance of real terms. I had a mechanic friend look at it and he said it would need a new steering column. So my question is: what is typically required to repair this damage? I have the ignition lock cylinder, and it looks fine. I was told the computer might need reset. The dealership is ât answering today, and itâs not driveable, so I donât want to have someone tow it until I know what I need to do.

If you use anything other than the original key or key reader, then you will have to reprogram the security system. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Do you have "Comprehensive" or insurance for theft? Use it, you'll need it. Whole column? I'm not sure without some serious pictures to dealer if you will know whole or parts of it. Colors are probably into play as well? Sorry crap like that happens at all but do ask that keys match again should be sold as a lock-set for that. An independent may be open if you wish to go that way let them use the dealer for what they don't have for re-programming anything no harm in asking it might save some bucks and be faster actually with the right shop? If insurance leave open a clause for "unseen" damages IDK how nasty it was to bust things up from here, T

No theft insurance. The guy that looked at it didnât give a lot of reasoning for why the whole column would need replaced. Heâs the guy in the neighborhood that works on everybodyâs cars, not an employed mechanic. But heâs done stuff for us before and heâs a good guy. I canât vouch for his knowledge since I am definitely not a mechanic. Most complicated thing Iâve done was a starter replacement.

No, you won't find it on those sites. It's likely a dealer only part.
