I have a 98 Saturn S1. Several times my car has died due to fuel issues. I have traced the problem to the wires coming into the fuel pump relay in the fuse panel located under the center console. When I say traced, I mean that in the back of the fuse panel I can just grab the bundle of wires and wiggle them a bit and my can will start again. I assume one of the wires that my relay has a bad connection to the fuse box or one of the wires has a slight break. My question is: do these wires just pull out of the rear of the fuse and relay panel by giving them a yank? I don't want to break any wires so before I try to pull on them I just want to know if it takes a special tool to remove them.

No, they have metal tabs than lock them into place. They have to be released to remove individual wires and that usually requires a special release tool. Sometimes the contacts overheat and over time they loosen up and lose their tension to the relay blades. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
