2000 chevy silverado 1500 2wd 4.3 178000 miles power loss

Ran fine until it rolled into river . Dried it out & cleaned all wire connections right away . New engine computer & replaced body computer .
Started right up . Scanned & set cam timing @ 0 degrees ( was @ -13 ) Started normal until we erased problem codes .
Now lazy starting , idles & runs like timing is retarded 15 or 20 degrees .
Timing scans ok , no misfires & no exhaust restriction .

The ignition timing is preset and not adjustable in any way on this vehicle.
Turning the distributor changes the Crank/Cam offset synch

Any trouble codes stored? If so, what are the numbers? Was the engine running when it went down into the river?

It wasn't running when it sank . Almost wish it was ( I wouldn't be having this problem ) . There weren't any codes last night . But today it's showing random misfire . Distributor was dry but going to pull it out & check it . Also have installed new wires & plugs .
Left O2 censor now coding .

Went through crankshaft position learn steps.

Don't pull that distributor unless you have access to a professional level scan tool capable of resetting the cam offset when you put it back in.

How deep did it go down into the river?
It's possible that water may have gotten into the fuel tank through the evap vent valve.
Pull the fuel filter and shake the fuel out on a metal table and see if there are any water droplets in the fuel.

The headliner & sun visors stayed dry .
Fuel ok . Motor had water in cylinders & oil pan .
Drained pan right away & removed spark plugs . Rolled motor over while towing to clear cylinders . Drained oil ,flushed & new oil in Motor & manual trans . No water in rear end , brakes , clutch fluid , power steering or fuel .
I'm thinking it's probably electrical .

About flooding of this truck alone:
Never mind if it runs or not the endless problems will come along. You said no water in brakes and more - not true! It was never made to have electric motors, brake calipers, bearings with seals, trans and differential only protect to a point.
Starter motor works but not for long as well as alternator plus power windows and lock motors if equipped.
This totals a vehicle with surprises that never end. Blower motor - gone - these things are NOT sealed water tight.
Endless - the exhaust parts if hot cracks will show up and converter will take a hit collapse inside or at least clogged with debris from this.
U-Joints don't take this and let the band play on there are more things that can't tolerate submersion than can be counted. They may work for a little while? Brake calipers will take longer and wonder why they one by one freeze up and on and on and on.
What do you really want to do with this now? You can do stuff one by one and have run again even well but the surprises will kill you right down this steering column was underwater too OMG the thing is just metal parts if you ask me but not there looking.
Check trans fluid now for pink frappe looking fluid means it's gone or will be soon too,

That truck is totaled. You don't get away with submerging computers, electronic components or wiring.
If the truck doesn't have insurance, it's time to start parting it out.

Thanks for the input .
I rebuilt salvage vehicles & ran auto body repair for over 25 years . Am well aware of problems with water damage .
If all the vehicles that got wet were scrapped there would be a lot fewer preowned autos on the road .
Maybe next time you could try not to be so negative & try to help with original question .
Figured it out . Invalid pass lock code put ECM into limp mode . Flashed BCM & went back through relearn sequence .
Runs fine .
I know i'll have some problems down the road, but it'll be cheaper than another trk.

If you ran a body shop then you damn well know that any flooding that reaches the dash is an automatic total loss to any insurance company and you know this is only the beginning of a direct line to the junkyard.
It is what it is.

Hmmmm....This is an odd one....I know HT can get grumpy from time to time ....but man...I reread this thread and am just not seeing it....
It great you got this running, but all the advise i am seeing here is pretty much on point...I'm not seeing any negative comments here..Just an industry wide take on these type of vehicles
Wet is one thing...voyage to the bottom of the sea is another...The main thing is, you know the pitfalls ahead...That's the main reason most shops bail on these and insurance companies total them...
I'm not really getting the invalid passlock code? Never seen that fault cause that type of failure Or how the BCM figures into all this....but hey.....don't matter.....You got a handle on it for now......and we'll still be here when the ghosts start showing up.......Actually if you come across one getting parted out.....If i was you.....i would start grabbing all the main harness I could....... g/l.......glad to hear ya got it going....

I agree with Sid. Usually a problem in the passlock system only causes a start and stall condition along with the flashing passlock indicator, but if you got it running good that is all that matters.
I'd say this is solved. Topic locked and can be reopened upon request by the OP.
