Hi! I don't know if this is the right section of the forum, if not, please redirect me to the correct one and I will rewrite the question. I have had a 2006 Toyota Yaris XP9 (998cc) gasoline (petrol) for almost 20 years. In 20 years of use, the car has never given us any problems, the engine has been replaced once and all the checks have been done regularly as required by law (I'm from Italy), but the maintenance by my parents over the years has been poor :(. Now the veicle has 120k kilometers. A colleague of mine advised me to carry out a lot of maintenance (changing spark plugs, changing mufflers, valves, etc.) in order to try and get the car as close as possible back to its 'original saleable state' (as if it were new). He told me about spark plugs, valves and muffler .. are there any others? I know nothing about engines, so be as explicit as a shopping list. My question is: - is it worth trying? is it possible for this type of vehicle? - Regardless of the answer .. what components should I evaluate and possibly change if I wanted to do this? I also do this as a matter of personal culture because I am interested in this subject despite the fact that (as you have noted) it is not my field. Thanks to everyone!

I apologize. I looked at the car documents and corrected the information in the post above. I will definitely take a look at the instruction booklet.

Oil changes both time and miles count. Synthetic oils a preferred by me you shouldn't have needed an engine even this old? What went wrong? Valves and other failures you mentioned are bad luck or you overheated or neglected oil changes? IMO 3,000 miles (synthetic too) or 3 months oil gets polluted so some liquid gold oil isn't going to outlast time/miles - kilometers do the math. Harm is done with short trips, dusty conditions and wild temperature fluctuations. Also lack of use till warmed up, throw that in. I still say don't be hard on a cold engine by 2006 they warm up fast if moving along temp gauge should stay on target - not fluctuate is a warning of a problem. Again, overheats and lack of good oil + changes read operator's manual 90% of vehicles qualify for "severe" use schedules, T
