Startup with A/C on

My wife has a habit of leaving the A/C on when she shuts her car (94 Saturn SL2) off. She says it makes no difference, but I can definitely hear a difference when she starts it. It sounds like it's straining against that high pressure built up by the compressor, and sometimes it doesn't start right away. With the A/C off it always starts on the first revolution. Am I making too much of this, or is she putting undue strain on the starter or some other part? --- Steve

My Opinion and Mine perhaps Only....... Leave the setting where it was! It's way more trouble to change out control panels from being moved too much than a starter. It shouldn't be a big strain on starter at the low turn speed anyway. I've logged way over 10 million miles with this suggestion and NEVER replaced a control panel! Your call,

The compressor clutch circuit is not supposed to be energized while cranking. If yours is, then something is shorted, perhaps in the ignition switch or wiring.
