Bad clunk and scrape from underneath 77 Pontiac TransAm (complete restore 4 yrs ago) when in reverse backing up. Have pulled axels and checked rear end, bearings, brakes and found no problems. Car rarely driven. 6,6 engine, 350 transmission

I assume the sound is coming from the rear end due to everything you've looked at so far. About all you can do is try to find the area the noise is coming from & inspect it. Since it's doing it in reverse you should be able to careful pinpoint that with a helper...Like I said I'm guessing you've tracked it down the to the rear end... The next thing to do would be to put it up on jack stands & see if you can duplicate the noise in the air. If so this would enable you to get real close to it while its happening and you should be able to find the troubled area from there....

check your lug nuts> have you recently had the rims off? Next would be the universal joints.
