overheating durango

I have a 2001 durango and in slow or stop and go traffic the thermostat will raise very quickly. Higher than was normal the first 5 or so years i drove the vehicle. I have had the radiator flushed. replaced hoses and the thermostat When i get up to say freeway speeds the temp comes down. Could it be a plugged radiator? or a inop fan? Also when the temp goes up so does the temp of the ac coming from the vents. I am guessing this is directly related to one another. I have never had the ac recharged but when working it seems to work normal. just not as cold as when new, especially on those hot days? Any thoughts on where to start or what to do to trouble shoot would be greatly appericiated.

In front of the regular fan, there is another electric fan mounted up against the radiator. It sounds like that fan is not working. You will have to test the fan motor itself by jumping power and ground to it. It's likely the fan or the relay. The relay is in the power distribution box. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Is this the type of fan that comes on at a specific temerature or should it run all the time? How do I check the relay to see if it is bad?

You check the motor first as I suggested. The fan comes on at a specific temp or it should run all the time with the A/C on.
