Today my truck started making this terrible, short screeching sound after the engine turned over. It sounds the exact same as when you turn the key after the engine is already started. It also seemed to have a little trouble turning over at times. Help please.

The drive gear that throws out at the "flywheel" (ring gear) probably isn't retracting either sticky, broken in some way or stays empowered by the trigger wire. Don't let it do that or risk breaking teeth. TMK this is an expensive starter and should be able to replace the solenoid which is doing this operation if it doesn't return to home position if that item itself is responsible. Check that power to the trigger wire shuts off, Tom

There is a Technical Service Bulletin that MAY apply and explain what happened. Google ' TSB 00-06-04-014 '
